Beginners Ukulele with Ash Devine

The Handmade Music School presents a beginners ukulele workshop with Ash Devine on Saturday December 29, 2018 from 1:00-3:00pm. This workshop is for developing songwriters at any level. Cost is $65 with a new ukulele, $30 for workshop only. This is a family-friendly, kid-friendly workshop priced with a ukulele. It is a perfect gift and activity for the Holiday vacation week! Those interested can purchase the Ukulele and wrap it up for a loved one, and receive a gift certificate for the Workshop, or receive a gift certificate for both the instrument and the workshop to be picked up on December 29th.

Bass Workshop with Missy Raines

The Handmade Music School presents a bass workshop with Missy Raines on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 3:00-4:30pm. Join Missy for an intensive 90 minute bass workshop. We’ll cover some basic fundamentals including right hand technique, left hand technique, getting good tone, and keeping good time. We’ll hone our ear training skills a little and unlock the number system while playing a new song or two. We’ll also discuss the important role of the bass in a bluegrass band and how to be the best support player you can be. All levels welcome. Bring your instrument.

The Handmade Music School presents a songwriters workshop with Jeff McClellan and Scott Patrick on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 3:00-5:00pm. This workshop is for developing songwriters at any level. Hit Songwriter Jeff McClellan & Producer/Arranger Scott Patrick are teaming up to provide brief look at all aspects of songwriting.  We will have three main components: lyric & arrangement, PRO's & Publishing, Demo & Song Pitch Etiquette and decide as a group what to spend most of our time working on.

Beginning Live Sound Workshop with Joseph DeJarnette

The Handmade Music School presents a Beginning Live Sound Workshop Series with Joseph DeJarnette of Studio808A/Turn It Down Sound on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. This workshop is for beginners and requires no previous experience or knowledge of audio systems. We will introduce the concepts behind sound, including basic acoustics, gear commonly used in sound reinforcement, signal flow, volume/gain structure, microphone types and placement, speaker types and placement and an introduction to music as it relates to audio frequencies and power. We will discover what causes those dreaded ringing feedback tones and how to avoid them. At the end of this session, you will know the basics of how to set up a simple PA system, including how to turn it on, run the correct wires, set the essential knobs and best position the speakers and microphones for optimal sound.

Abe Goorskey and Scott Patrick will provide a brief introduction of how improvisation applies to bluegrass music and show you how to incorporate improvisational playing into your song repertoire. Using mandolin and guitar, Scott and Abe will discuss melodic and improvised approaches to songs and tunes, and how to use both approaches with ease.
