The Handmade Music School present an intermediate fiddle workshop, "Merging Traditional Fiddle Styles," with Billy Hurt on Saturday October 12, 2019 from 3:30-5:00pm. Cost is $30. This intermediate workshop will teach participants to use multiple fiddle styles to create their own versions of tunes, while staying within the framework of traditional music. Billy will point out examples of fiddlers that have used the same techniques on old records.

The Handmade Music School presents an introduction to Old Time Fiddle with Kalia Yeagle and Andrew Small on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 11:00am - 1:00pm. This workshop will be beneficial to beginning and intermediate fiddlers as well as anyone who wishes to gain a foundational understanding of the functional, stylistic, and technical considerations inherent to old time fiddling. Cost is $30.
The Handmade Music School is offering a series of one-hour afternoon workshops as part of the Floyd County Old Time Music Get-Together on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the the Floyd EcoVillage in Floyd County, Virginia. Workshops include intermediate and advanced classes in fiddle, banjo, guitar, dance, and singing. We are opening these workshops to the public. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per workshop.

The Handmade Music School presents a Banjo and Fiddle Duets Workshop with Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 3:00-5:00pm. Cost is $30. In this workshop we will explore the different ways that the banjo and fiddle work together. We will listen and analyze different recordings of our favorite banjo-fiddle duos and discuss the history of instruments as a pair. We will spend time separated by instrument, and then some time working all together.

The Handmade Music School and Southern Mountain Melodies are offering a Music of Our Mountains Workshop with Mac Traynham, Jenny Traynham, and Andy Buckman on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm. This is an all day group lesson for intermediate fiddle, intermediate clawhammer banjo, and intermediate back-up guitar. Students will learn some "local" tunes in a danceable style that is what the Sunday Jam and Friday Night Jamboree are all about.

Eddie will teach Roundpeak/Galax style tunes with attention to bowing. Eddie Bond grew up in Fries, Virginia, where the fiddle and banjo are still welded in a Virginia dance tradition. Eddie is the fiddler and lead singer in the New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters, and is the winner of many fiddle contests, including the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention.
